Healthy Wage Team Challenge Ribbon Maximums: Team Aggregate Ribbon Count 104, Individual 25

OK, failure here won’t strand you in space—but still it is not an option. There are more positive memes I can make from this movie, but I’ll save those for other posts. Enjoy this one!

This is a crucial post for Team Challenge players.

At the start here, I provide this text from Healthy Wage:

NOTE: Please notify HealthyWage immediately if you think you are missing a ribbon! You must notify HealthyWage within seven days from the date the ribbon should have been awarded; otherwise, the ribbon is forfeited.

And…

If at anytime before/during/after the challenge [you are] unsure about how to achieve a certain ribbon or think[] [you] should have received one (but [haven’t]), please [] contact our support team at info@healthywage.com and they’ll be able to assist.

Also, go here for plenary information about the Team Challenge.

For any team shooting for a top-3 team prize—$10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 for the Team Challenge starting October 19, 2019—it is imperative that the “team aggregate ribbon count” be maxed out by the end of the challenge.

This is because it is highly likely that there will be a multi-way tie for first place at the end. The maximum weight loss that a player can be credited for in the Team Challenge is 16.59%, and therefore the maximum team average is that same value. So there could be multiple teams that have all of their members over 16.59%, and they will all be tied.

Before pooling the top three prizes and dividing it amongst all involved team members equally, Healthy Wage invokes a tiebreaking rule using “team aggregate ribbon count”.

If a first-place tied team collects all possible ribbons in this category, the members of that team will inevitably share a large sum of money:

  • If one other team got all their ribbons, the members of the two teams with split the sum of the top 2 prizes 10 ways ($15,000 split into into $1,500 per member for a 2-way tie in the 10/18/19 TC).
  • If two other teams got all their ribbons, the three teams split the sum of the top 3 prizes 15 ways ($18,000 split into $1,200 per member for a 3-way tie in the 10/18/19 TC).
  • If three or more teams got all their ribbons, the sum of the top 3 prizes gets split among more members.

If a first-place team does not get all the ribbons, those team members may lose a tiebreaker to other teams that did. It’s a mistake that can prove costly.

The rules and FAQ at the Healthy Wage website do not clearly tell you what the maximum possible team aggregate ribbon count (I’ll abbreviate this TARC) is. With a lot of help from Healthy Wage people and friends on the internet, I investigated and confirmed maximum TARC in a Team Challenge to be 104 ribbons. I also know how to count them up.

If you are on a team—and especially if you are a team captain—read below to clearly learn what ribbons you need to maximize your TARC and be on the good side of a tiebreaker, should you actually succeed in getting a 16.59% team weight loss average.

Also look downpost to see maximum Individual Ribbon Count (IRC). Should your team bid fail—and you might find out very early that it will—as an individual team member you may still have a shot at winning a lot of money by maximizing your individual performance and getting all the ribbons you have personal control over.

The 10/18/19 challenge does offer $2,000 to be awarded to individual ribbon winners. And you don’t need to lose 16.59% to get some of that dough—10% is enough!

Team Aggregate Ribbon Count: 104 for “100% Completion” Achievement

Here is the breakdown—every ribbon identified and named.

Team Weight Loss Ribbons (3)

These you earn as the team increases its average weight loss above the indicated thresholds. They are automatically awarded as each team member loses weight.

Unearned TARC team weight loss ribbons
The colors of earned ones
  • TARC Ribbon #1: 2% team average weight loss
  • TARC Ribbon #2: 4% team average weight loss
  • TARC Ribbon #3: 6% team average weight loss

Mini-Challenge Completion by Team (6)

Every 2 weeks, a mini challenge must be completed. These can be before photos, after photos, selfies, “Weight loss mantras”, or such like. Here is a graphic from an earlier challenge:

Example of mini challenges you might be faced with.
Mini challenge ribbons

According to my friend Sashoi, any team member can complete the mini challenges on behalf of their team. So there should be no excuse for a team not to do them. But ideally they would be done with team collaboration.

Here are the 6 ribbons for the mini-challenges:

  • TARC Ribbon #4: Mini-Challenge #1 (weeks 1-2)
  • TARC Ribbon #5: Mini-Challenge #2 (weeks 3-4)
  • TARC Ribbon #6: Mini-Challenge #3 (weeks 5-6)
  • TARC Ribbon #7: Mini-Challenge #4 (weeks 7-8)
  • TARC Ribbon #8: Mini-Challenge #5 (weeks 9-10)
  • TARC Ribbon #9: Mini-Challenge #6 (weeks 11-12)

Individual Ribbons by All Team Members (95)

In addition to the above 9 ribbons, each team member must earn 19 ribbons through his or her own efforts. 19 ribbons times 5 team members equals 95 ribbons.

I will start with the ones that automatically will be earned by anyone maxing out at 16.59% weight loss. There are 30 of these. In all other Healthy Wage games you pick these up automatically by losing the weight and by doing a verified weigh-in to get paid. So it is with the Team Challenge.

Then I will cover the ribbons—65 of them—that are not related directly to the weight loss itself. These are the ones that have zero bearing on payouts in all other Healthy Wage games, but are critical in the Team Challenge. They are the weekly weigh-ins and the profile photo.

Verified Weigh-Outs (1 per team member, 5 total)

Verified weigh out ribbon

How to do these: Do a verified weigh-out (most commonly, via the mobile app).

This can be done during the last 15 days of the Team Challenge. It can, in fact, be done more than once during that period—subsequent weigh-outs supersede earlier ones.

For a team top-prize try, team members should weigh in as soon as their weight loss is 16.59% or greater, and the weigh-out window is open at the same time. But if that feat is accomplished early, the member still needs to take care to do non-verified weigh-ins as required for the remainder of the 12 weeks.

  • TARC Ribbons #35-39: Verified Weigh-Outs
    • TARC Ribbon #35: Weigh-Out Member A
    • TARC Ribbon #36: Weigh-Out Member B
    • TARC Ribbon #37: Weigh-Out Member C
    • TARC Ribbon #38: Weigh-Out Member D
    • TARC Ribbon #39: Weigh-Out Member E

Weekly Weigh-ins (12 per member, 60 total)

Unearned ribbons for each player
Earned ones

How to do these: Submit a non-verified weigh-in (i.e. enter a value) at least once per week.

The “week” is defined as 12:01 am Sunday through 11:59 pm Saturday, US Eastern Standard Time.

If the challenge starts and ends on a Friday, I would recommend making a habit of “Weigh-in Wednesday”, in which everyone enters their weight on Wednesday and doesn’t forget. This would start the Wednesday after the starting Friday and continue for 12 weeks.

(And to be honest, if I weighed in on Friday or Saturday, I would also add a non-verified weigh immediately afterward, to see if I got credit for weigh-in #1. It’s a cheap test of the system.)

Profile photo ribbon

What to do: Upload a profile photo. Players may have done this already for earlier games—if a photo is in your profile, you get credit for this ribbon upon signing for the Team Challenge.

Note: these photos are different than any photos required in the Mini-Challenges. And members must upload their own profile photos—unlike Mini-Challenge photos which can be taken care of by any team member.

/s. (Should be obvious—always have fun doing a Team Challenge no matter what happens.)

Individual Ribbon Counts—A Lifeboat to Money After Your Team Hits the Iceberg

Individuals who are not on winning teams can still get money by maximizing individual ribbon count (IRC), if the Team Challenge offers prizes for this. Again, the October 18, 2019 TC does offer prizes for maxing out IRC, according to my affiliate contacts at Healthy Wage.

Although this is not spelled out specifically in Healthy Wage’s rules and FAQ, it appears that maximum possible IRC for a single team player is 25. Here is the count:

IRC Weekly Weigh-ins (12)

When you do your weekly weigh-ins for TARC, you drive up IRC.

  • IRC Ribbon #1: Week 1 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #2: Week 2 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #3: Week 3 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #4: Week 4 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #5: Week 5 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #6: Week 6 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #7: Week 7 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #8: Week 8 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #9: Week 9 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #10: Week 10 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #11: Week 11 Weigh-in
  • IRC Ribbon #12: Week 12 Weigh-in

IRC Weight Loss Weigh-ins (5)

As you lose weight, these accrue; and they drive both TARC and IRC. Once you get to 10%, you have maxed out this part of IRC (and likely your contribution to TARC).

  • IRC Ribbon #13: 2% Individual Weight Loss
  • IRC Ribbon #14: 4% Individual Weight Loss
  • IRC Ribbon #15: 6% Individual Weight Loss
  • IRC Ribbon #16: 8% Individual Weight Loss
  • IRC Ribbon #17: 10% Individual Weight Loss

IRC Profile Photo (1)

Easy to do—you may have done it already.

  • IRC Ribbon #18: Profile Photo

IRC Verified Weigh-Out

Why wouldn’t you do this?

  • IRC Ribbon #19: Verified Weigh-Out

Mini-Challenges (6)

The mini challenges are in the same ribbon group as profile photo and verified weigh-out. The latter two you do yourself; but the minis can be done collaboratively or can be taken care of by any team member—either way, no reason they should jeopardize a max IRC bid for any player.

On these, it is actually unclear to me if they count as team ribbons only (TARC only) or are also IRC ribbons, as they are clustered in the “Effort Ribbons” group with Profile Photo and Verified Weigh-Out.

But to me it is a distinction without a difference. As a team member, you can do the mini-challenges on behalf of the team without their input—you don’t have to depend on them. (Just make sure nobody does anything stupid and deletes a team submission.)

  • IRC Ribbon #20: Mini-Challenge #1 (Weeks 1-2)
  • IRC Ribbon #21: Mini-Challenge #2 (Weeks 3-4)
  • IRC Ribbon #22: Mini-Challenge #3 (Weeks 5-6)
  • IRC Ribbon #23: Mini-Challenge #4 (Weeks 7-8)
  • IRC Ribbon #24: Mini-Challenge #5 (Weeks 9-10)
  • IRC Ribbon #25: Mini-Challenge #6 (Weeks 11-12)
