DietBet Maintainers—Coming Back?

Here are the rules on 12-month Maintainer games.

To summarize:

  • This lasts for a year, with a weigh-in and a pot to win from each month
  • All players weigh in at the beginning of the game. You must have a BMI of 30 or less at the start. (This means you have to indicate what your height is in addition to weighing in.)
  • You pay $25/month for 12 months, or $275 all in (last month is free)
  • If you pay per month,
    • $12.50 of the $25 payment in each of the first 11 months goes into the pot for those respective months, while the other $12.50 goes into the Month 12 pot. The entire $25 payment for Month 12 goes into the Month 12 pot. if you decide to quit, you are paid out on any pots you have won (including the month your or on), and are off the hook for any payments for subsequent months. But your contributions to the Month 12 pot are unrecoverable.
  • If you pay all-in:
    • You can cancel for a full refund up to Day 14 of Month 1; after that, no refunds
    • Of the $275 paid, $12.50 goes into each of the pots for Months 1-11, and $137.50 goes into the Month 12 pot
  • At the end of each month, you weigh in. If your weight is between 96% and 102% of your starting weight (i.e. -4% to +2% deviation from starting weight), you win a share of the pot for that month.
  • To win the big Month 12 pot, you must weigh in at the end of Month 11 and be between 96% and 105% of your starting weight (i.e. -4% to +5% deviation from starting weight) to qualify. Obviously, winning in Month 11 qualifies you for Month 12.
  • All winnings are held until the conclusion of Month 12, if you make it. If you fail to qualify for Month 12 by not weighing in at the end of Month 11—or weighing in outside the qualifying range—you will get paid out at that time. If you were paying monthly, your $25 payment for Month 12 will be cancelled.

Right now, an 8-week maintain bet is going on for members. It starts October 14 and runs until December 8. The fee is $10. The requirement for winning is to be between 97% and 103% of starting weight (-3% to +3% deviation).

If we have permanent maintain bets next year, they may look something like either of these examples. I will be ready for them when they come.
