So I have been tinkering with this app quite heavily. It’s been a lot of fun.
The graphical capabilities have been greatly enhanced. They look much better than they did 2 week ago—plus I can plot a lot more things than before.
I got 3 main pages for plotting graphs.
Return vs Wagered Dollars
This page assumes you know how much you want to lose and in what time period. It will do a sweep of bet sizes and display all the different payout metrics at each bet size.
You can select monthly payment or total payment for the horizontal axis.
For the vertical axis, you get your choice of outputs:
- Gain (profit)
- Prize (including your bet being returned to you)
- Return on investment (gain divided by investment)
- Bet-multiplied Gain Component (the part of gain that depends only on your bet size)
- Triple-Bonus Gain Component (the part of gain that depends only on the amount of weight you are pledging, if you are pledging enough weight to trigger the triple-bonus sub-formula
- Stack-up of gain components (bet-multiplied, bonus, referral)
- Stack-up of prize (bet-multiplied, bonus, referral, investment)
What I want to illustrate is where the maximum possible gain is, and how much you have to bet to achieve that—assuming you are satisfied with the number of pounds you are pledging to lose. There is a corresponding amount of money that you need to bet to achieve that maximum gain.
If you bet more than this maximum, you will not be rewarded with additional gain. In many cases, you will actually LOSE gain if you overbet. (I think I can figure a way to plot that loss metric, actually.) The graphs show you which bets are overbets, so you know to avoid them.
The data is available in tabular form as well.
Return vs Pledged Pounds
This page is pretty involved. I have 105 different graph options at this time.
This page is for players who are still trying to figure out how many pounds to pledge to lose. It will do a sweep of the number of pounds and compute payouts for all of those.
If you know what your budget is per month, you can get the payout for each number of pounds pledged, using the money amount that you chose. You will be told for which pledge levels you are betting too much money—and are getting your gain stunted due to the hidden net gain caps in the calculator.
On the other hand, if your budget is flexible, you can easily figure out how to adjust your pledge and money to achieve maximum profit for minimal effort:
- If you have your pledged pounds set, you can figure out how much to adjust your bet to get maximum profit on this page—although the Return vs Wagered Dollars page does this more comprehensively.
- If you can adjust your pounds pledged upward, you can improve your ROI. If you happen to be pledging near the point where the calculator switches from the regular sub-formula to the triple-bonus sub-formula, you might be able to get a big ROI and money boost by pledging just a little more weight.
- If you are already pledging enough weight to get the triple-bonus sub-formula, you may be able to ease the pledge to the point where it is just barely triggered and forfeit a relatively small amount of gain.
At this time I have 21 different metrics on the vertical axis, and each can be plotted across 5 metrics on the horizontal axis, for a total of 105 unique graphs for this page.
It’s a lot, and I might add more—but they all are trying to illustrate the same type of information in different ways.
The horizontal axis choices are:
- Pounds pledged
- Kg pledged
- Percent pledged
- Ending weight in pounds
- Ending BMI
- (I need to add ending weight in kg—that will add another 21 graphs. 😃)
Outputs include:
- The same 5 things mentioned above (I’ll add ending weight in kg as well, for another 6 graphs 😃😃)
- Gain, prize, and ROI for the selected bet amount
- The bet size required (both monthly and total) if you want to maximize your gain at each number of pounds pledged
- Gain, prize, and ROI if you do a maximum bet
- Components of gain for both selected and maximum bets, either individually or stacked up
Other pages
I spruced up the other pages.
Also I am going to update color formatting.
